Twitter just released a “follow” button for websites, which permit Twitter customers to follow along with accounts from the websites themselves.
“For publishers and brands, adding the Follow Button aimed at your website and taking advantage of Twitter to remain associated with your audience is really a effective combination,” states Twitter’s John Ellin. “People who follow your bank account are more likely to retweet and build relationships your Tweets, and also to frequently go to your website.”
Interestingly, you cannot “unfollow” the company using the button once you’re following it, as if you can “unlike” a Facebook “like” in the button on a bit of content. Granted, when “liking” a brandname (as opposed to a bit of content) on Facebook, it works essentially exactly the same way.
Once you’re following a brand, the button will highlight a box of latest Twitter activity in the brand, like so:
